At the outset of quarantine, Koi can be purchased by selecting from photos, and the fish are then left with us for the full quarantine period.
On arrival, the Koi are allowed to settle after transit and then examined to ensure they are healthy and free of parasites and they are treated if required. Throughout quarantine Koi are monitored for white spot as it can be triggered by temperature changes during heat ramping.
At the first chill- heat cycle, the water temperature is taken down to 12C for 24 hours. Then we gradually increase the temperature by 2 degrees per day over 6 days to 24C and hold this for 3 weeks. To begin the next cycle we slowly take the temperature down to 12C at 1 degree per day for 24 hours and then raise it at 2 degrees per day to 24C and hold it for 2 weeks.
After these two heat cycles if the Koi remain healthy it is possible that they have never been exposed to any serious disease, KHV being just one of the diseases heat ramping can trigger. We can carry out further cycles at a customer’s request.
We can keep Koi for an agreed period after quarantine is complete to help our customers.
